Review: Designing the Love

Designing the LoveDesigning the Love by Crystal Perkins

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Weak and dumbass hero. After many years with our heroine, his ex is back and he drops everything to see if he still loves her.
He does not take into account our heroine's feelings and treats her like yesterday's trash.
He comes back very sorry for the stupid thing he did. Our heroine soon gives in.
Some drama happens and we have an HEA.

Let’s go Zane.”
Quinn finally speaks up. “He’s not going with you.”
“You think he’s yours, Quinn? He’s not. You were just a place holder for me. We had this planned for years.” She grabs Zane’s hand and he starts walking with her.
“Zane?”
“I’m sorry, Quinn. I have to go with her.”
“Sorry? You’re sorry? Oh my God. I’m so stupid.”
He pulls away from Whitney and walks to her. “We did have this planned, and I have to see if there’s still something there. It’s only fair to all three of us.”

“Whitney. She was his girlfriend through all of middle and high school. Her parents never approved, and she didn’t seem to care. Until they threatened to cut her off. So, she ditched him and went off to college somewhere. He got together with Quinn a few months later, and they’ve been together for almost seven years now. She’s who he belongs with. Anyone can see it. But apparently Whitney’s hold on him is still there. What a fucking bastard.”

Quinn has also walked over, and she’s standing in front of Zane. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m so sorry, Quinn. I was an idiot. Please, can we talk?”
“No. You made your choice. You haven’t contacted me once.”
“I know, but I’m here now.”
“And what, I’m supposed to just forget that I was a ‘placeholder’ for five years, and you left me the minute your real love came back?”
“That’s not…you weren’t…please, Quinn.”
“Goodbye Zane.”

I thought I had to leave Quinn at the wedding and go with Whitney. I felt that if I didn’t, I’d always be wondering, “what if.”

After Zane showed up here last week, I need to get out of town. If he pursues me, I’m going to go back to him. I won’t be able to help it. I have been in love with him since we were twelve.

Unfortunately, he could only see Whitney.

Then Zane walked back into my life. I’ll never forget that day. It was the day that my heart broke for the man I loved, as I watched him cry for someone else. I held him as he told me Whitney wouldn’t give up her inheritance to be with him. That she didn’t love him enough. That he wasn’t enough.

Zane wasn’t at the apartment when I cleaned my stuff out, and I was scared to go to the shop and see him. Whitney’s suitcases were in the apartment, and if I saw her taking over my store, too, I probably would’ve killed her. I have too much respect for myself to go to jail for some classless bitch.

You left me for that dumb, stupid bitch, who never appreciated or deserved you. I’m guessing she threw you aside again, so you’re here to take your consolation prize, your ‘place holder.’

“Did you kiss her?’
I sigh, because I have to answer this honestly. “Yeah. I did. I needed to know if I still felt something for her. But I didn’t.”
