Not much happens ... after reaching 60% the story drags to the end. Meh!
Their mother accepts all women except Kelly ... I was very angry about that. What a bitch.
She’d been underage, as had he, but they’d spent the next two weeks together around her shifts at the bar and his gigs.
One of their songs, “Dive Bar,” had been about her and those two weeks.
A new challenge was always fun. Especially when it concerned a pretty blonde with long legs and a smile that invited a man to sin and not repent.
“Hmm, sounds familiar, but, Paddy, you have a thing for blondes. There are stories like that from coast to coast and across Europe. They all run together after a time.” “I do have a really fucking awesome life.”
“I didn’t dump her! It was fall, she was heading off to college and we were on the road. It was fine. No tears. No drama.”
“Cut the shit. You’re into it because it’s a challenge.”
“No. I’m not interested in this...whatever it is. I don’t want to play games. I’m not being coy. I have a nice, quiet life. I like it that way.”
His mother crossed her arms over her chest. “Oh, and she suddenly wants to go out with you?” Sharon Hurley was not one for any foolery that had to do with anyone taking advantage of her children.

But Paddy had to hand it to Kelly. She’d had more than one opportunity to leave the area for school and her job, but she’d turned it all down so their daughters could see their dad on a regular basis.
“I’m glad we have our own house with no one close enough. I can’t imagine what goes on at Vaughan’s place. Ezra, well, he keeps his business away from the ranch, and I know what Paddy is getting up to.” Mary winked at Natalie, who groaned.
“She’s a good girl. And she has a big heart. I was worried you’d end up with a moron with big boobs and a tiny brain.” He winced. “Why? Why not big boobs and a big brain? I’m an overachiever.”
“Just think of Paddy’s face when you say all your girlfriends were in your bed snuggling you when they broke it.” More laughing came.
“Keeping low expectations means you’re not as disappointed when people mess up.”
I say I have vagina. Way tougher than balls.

She wondered about their mother. Paddy had said his ex-wife was a really good mother who stayed nearby so Vaughan could see them and be a regular part of their lives. Mothering like that was sort of miraculous to Natalie.
You didn’t trust me to handle this, and now it’s fucked. Your need to always have control has wrecked everything.”
“It is about me, though. If this gains speed, it’s my girlfriend who looks like a dope-fiend skank.
“I think you need to go. Cool off awhile. I’ll be back home in a month.”

Sharon paused. “Honey, she needs a momma something fierce. Her grandmother is useless. Her father is worse than useless. Let me tell you, he won’t even see me coming when I get my chance. But Natalie needs to be loved like a mother can love her.”
