===================
I really like the author's writing and when I realize I'm so wrapped up in the characters that I don't feel the time pass. I heard the birds singing and noticed that the day was already dawning.
It was a myriad of emotions ... I was annoyed by the tendency to be martyr to our heroine. I wanted to shake her so she could see that the sisters were using her and discarding her. And it was time for her to do things for her and not for others. I wanted to kick the bitches' asses.
In certain passages I had tears in my eyes and was touched by the feeling of loneliness and desperation for a hug and to be loved by our heroine. But then I had a smile on my face and cheering for our heroine.
Our hero is the author's typical grumpy alpha male. But we ended up liking him anyway.
The secondary characters are very interesting and support the story.
I recommend it to those who like a slow burning story.
I’d noticed that, even in profile, the man had the grouchiest, meanest face I had ever seen in my life. I wasn’t sure how to explain it, but he did. And he was straight-up gorgeous.
Rip had kissed me. Me. (72% first kiss)
Sometimes, it was a lot easier to accept things when you realized that at the end of the day, you were just an innocent casualty in a train wreck that had been caused by something that had slowly rusted and fallen apart over decades.
I had gotten real good at getting crapped on by people. By being taken advantage of. But not from people who I thought I could trust. Who had made me believe that I could. Yet here I was. You can’t make anyone love you or care about you. I knew that better than anyone.
My family consisted of a dad who had threatened to kill me, a brother who had walked out on us, a cousin who had tried to beat me up, two lying sisters, and the one and only person who loved me as much as I loved her.
“Two fucking weeks and I want it back. You gave me these pieces of you I know you haven’t given to anybody else, and they’re mine. You can’t take ’em back. I need them more than you do, you hear me?”
