Blurb:

Temptation lurks around every corner when his best friend’s girl moves in.
Another roommate is the last thing Drew needs. Especially when that roommate happens to be the one woman he shouldn’t want and can’t have.
Neither Tara nor Drew can resist each other but are either of them strong enough to do the right thing?

Recomendo a leitura!

-----------------------------
This book is part of the "Being Yours" series and is already in the fourth book.
I recommend reading the previous books, but this book can be read alone without problems. You won't miss anything from the story, but you'll be curious about the characters from the author's previous books who participate in the story and make us want to reread it all over again.
The series has evolved well throughout the stories and the author's writing hooks us to the characters and events of the universe created by her.
I was so wrapped up in reading that by the time I reached the end of the story it was dawn and I didn't even notice the time passing by.
Our heroes meet in a bar and have a night of sex. Our heroine was a virgin, but she could not resist the charms of our alpha male. And the sex was hot and intense.
The other day they find out that they will work together and he will be the boss. He is not friendly at all and has a very hostile attitude.
She starts dating his best friend, just to piss him off.
My friends, this is where the story starts to get good.
A triangle is formed and doubts begin, friendships tested and boundaries crossed.
When besides physical attraction you start to like the person ... the inevitable happens.
The author knows how to create flawed characters that captivate us and make us cheer for them.
Follow the whole drama with an open mind prepared for strong scenes and also some laughs.
In the end I was captivated not only by Tara and Drew, but also by the irresponsible shit head Keller.
Now I hope the author writes his story. I'd love to see him change his attitude when he finds the right woman.
I recommend reading!

Tumble (Dogwood Lane #1) by Adriana Locke

Tumble (Dogwood Lane #1) by Adriana Locke

Kindle Edition, 279 pages
Expected publication: February 26th 2019 by Montlake Romance

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Blurb:

After being burned by her dream job in New York City, sports journalist Neely Kimber suddenly finds herself jobless and paying a long-overdue visit to her hometown in Tennessee. Her plan? Relax, reset, and head back up the corporate ladder. There’s just one unexpected step. Neely’s back in Dogwood Lane for barely a day when she sees the man she ran from nine years ago: the bad boy next door who was her first kiss, her first love, and her first heartbreak.

Devoted single dad Dane Madden knows he hurt Neely in the worst way. He’s got a lot to make up for. And as passionate as their reconnection is, it’s a lot to hope for. Having her back in his arms feels so right. But falling in love all over again with a woman who wants to live a world away is bound to go so wrong.

What’s it going to take for Neely to give him—and Dogwood Lane—just one more chance?

Review in Portuguese and English:
2 ⭐⭐ - Meh!

------------------------------------------

I really like the author's writing and I follow her work from her early books.
This is a story of second chance and reunion.
Neely returns to her hometown, Dogwood Lane, after 10 years of absence.
She had no plans to return, but a change in her career goals makes her make this decision.
Back home she has to see Dane, her great love and her great heartbreak.
They both loved each other and had a life in common already planned, but Dane ends the relationship and cheats with her best friend and worst, he gets her pregnant.
Total betrayal in my opinion, because he could have sex with any other, but chose her best friend for it.
I remembered Ross and Rachel on the Friends show and the excuse that they were on a break.

The fruit of this betrayal is Mia, a charismatic little girl and also much in need of maternal love.
Our hero tried to make it work with Mia's mother, Kate, but was abandoned by her with a baby to raise.
He had another serious relationship with Sara, even lived together, and thought she would be his partner to raise his daughter. But Sara was not ready to raise another woman's daughter and left him too. So we have a worried hero trying to protect his daughter's feelings. Mia was devastated when she was abandoned by Sara.
Our heroine had casual relationships, but nothing serious. Dane has always been her great love and so she has focused more on her career and left personal life aside.
When our heroine demonstrated all her anger and frustration at his betrayal and said harsh words to Dane, I confess that I liked her. I thought we would have a strong heroine and that would make him work hard for her forgiveness.

But that's not what happened. I think their reunion was too fast and she still felt guilty for being angry with him and ends up apologizing. I did not like that, because he was the one who acted wrong and he had to grovel a lot more.
From this point the story went downhill for me. She was weak!
She is at a crossroads professionally and feels that something is missing in her life. This reunion makes her question what she really wants for the rest of her life.
Is professional life more important than personal?
Is it worth risking again and being hurt?
All these issues make her feel vulnerable and uncertain.
But she never found another love that matched her feelings for him and this messes with her.
Dane is painted like a perfect guy, even though he was the one who broke her heart and committed that great betrayal in the name of good intentions.
You see, hell is full of well-meaning people.
I would not forgive so easily! But I'm a bitch who holds a grudge and a cynic.

But if it is good for our heroine I have to conform and accept, but I do not really understand such good and forgiven heroines.
Our hero won the girl and still as a bonus a mother to his daughter.

In the end it was an ok reading and it will not stay in memory.

Highlights

“Why are you negotiating with a dog?”

“You know what they say—sunshine brings opportunities.”
My thighs clench together as I consider what Dane could do to me now. With that body. With those lips. With that damn smirk.

“She’s just a girl from my past. I ran into her. People run into their exes all the time.”

I broke her heart. I broke her heart in the worst way I could, and the fact she didn’t tell me to fuck right off is more than I really deserve. It’s more than I would’ve given me.

“You always were a gambler.” He winks. “Were a gambler. Were. Past tense. Trust me,” I say. “Gambling is for the young and dumb, and I am not either anymore.”

“I have to stop putting all my hopes on the line without some safety net. It’s too big of a gamble. I’ve fallen too hard, too many times.”

A part of me will never forgive him for what he did. I may have found the pieces of my broken heart, but they’ll never fit together the way they did before that Saturday morning when he destroyed it.

“There’s nothing sexy about a grown man being called daddy—sugar or not.”

“You know I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

"I bet you were thinking that while you screwed Katie. I bet you were thinking, ‘Boy, I hope this doesn’t hurt Neely.’”

“You didn’t mean to have a baby with my best friend while we were on a break.”

You’ll be here playing house or whatever it is you do with Katie and your kid.

“Probably not. You probably ruined our relationship for a one-night stand, didn’t you? Good work.”

“Everything happens for a reason, huh?” I ask. “I don’t know what caused you to sleep with Katie, but that’s your problem. I won in the end.” His eyes darken.

Dane as a father. Dane as Mia’s father.

Then when Sara moved in after our dating for a year, a woman I really liked and saw a potential future with, Mia latched on to her like a leech. And when six months went by and she left us, too, saying she wasn’t prepared to raise someone else’s child, Mia was broken.

Right or wrong, I broke up with her. I gave her hope we’d work some kind of long-distance thing out. I slept with Katie. I had a kid.

I’ve been with a few women since Sara, but those relationships have been a hookup here and there.

“You’re what I want Mia to be.”

Review: Goalie

GoalieGoalie by M.E. Carter

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

--------------
I read several negative reviews and then I decided to read the book to see what was the whole thing.
The author wrote a story very realistic and it's not going to let that feeling good when you finish reading, but makes you think.
The hero is a professional athlete who has sex with his groupies that surround the players of his team. During the 10 years he was married to heroin and had 3 children he cheated his wife numerous times with different women. The hero leaves the reader with a lot of hate and disgust of his behavior.
She finally wake up to the situation and kick him out of the home and asks for a divorce. The heroine is the typical who was cheated and was the last to know everything.
He is reluctant to accept responsibility for what happened and keep making the same mistakes.
Our heroine is firm in her position and gradually gets stronger and independent despite still loving the hero.
I confess that if I was in her place I'd kick his butt out and wouldn't touch him anymore even with the tip of my finger. But she will slowly forgiving and he really tries to change his character and become a better person.
I was waiting for him to cheat again until the end and I got the feeling that she's going to have a very hard life trying to have peace knowing he won't be out there having sex with another woman. The trust will never be the same and I don't know if even a great love will sustain their marriage. But he seemed willing to change and actually slowly came to demonstrating that.
I like reading and more a cheater to my reading list.

Highlights:

"Admittedly, I haven’t been exactly celibate since Mari left me."

"there has never been a time in our entire relationship when Santos wasn’t cheating on me. Not in college. Not when we first got married. Not when I was pregnant. Not ever."

"How could you do this to me? To us? How could you humiliate me like that in front of everyone we know? Do you know what that’s like?"

"You’re not sorry for doing it; you’re sorry you got caught"

“So it never occurred to you that you kissed these whores on the mouth, probably right after they got done sucking someone else’s dick without a condom, did it?”
“God, Santos. It’s a wonder I don’t have herpes in my mouth, you asshole.”

"How many more pieces of myself can be broken before I disappear forever?"

"Have I really changed my patterns enough for Mari to trust me again? Obviously not since I just got a blow job from some random chick."

==>rolando de rir aqui! LOMAOF!
“You’re saying Santos cheated on me for all those years because he might have a medical condition that exacerbates his stupid superstitions?”
“I call bullshit.”
“Why?”
“Why?” I laugh, humorlessly. “Because we were married for ten years. He could have easily come home and gotten his ‘medical condition,’” I sarcastically use air quotes, “… under control with me. But he didn’t. He chose to go out and bang any groupie who was willing to spread her legs for him. No way. He made a choice. Every time.”

==>the prospects don't look very favorable for the couple
“Mari, the kind of trust I broke doesn’t take weeks or months to rebuild. It takes years. Years. You have every right to doubt me. I can promise all day long, but in the end, the only way to help you feel better is to show you. Never be sorry for looking. Never be sorry for reminding me not to let my guard down. This is how we’re going to rebuild what was broken. Together.”

Review: The Fourth Child

The Fourth Child The Fourth Child by C.J. Carmichael

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Re-read in December 2017 = added highlighs and my feelings...
Re-read in March 2015 = Added one more star

--------------
A very well written story that engages the reader from beginning to end.
But I would not take the cheater back, he was a son of a bitch.
And Janice was a bitch who knew the man was married.
He was loving the attention of a younger woman who fed his ego.
While the two had dates and dinners while pretending to work late, he did not remember his wife taking care of her three daughters at home alone.
And he spoke openly in the face of his wife who was in love with another woman and did not even remember her feelings or how his attitude would affect her daughters.
And he admitted that he kissed Janice and she even left a lipstick on the glove compartment of his car. Real evidence of the cheating left by Janice for his wife to find out.
Saying that he did not have sex with Janice did not convince me, I got the impression that something more intimate happened between them.

Already the place had the hollow, muted atmosphere he associated with afterhours and weekends.
And Janice.

Occasional lunches became more frequent; open meetings evolved into secret rendezvous. At what point had he known he was falling in love? Kirk still wasn't sure. But he did know the time had come to do something about it. Last week at dinner, Janice had told him she wanted more. He couldn't pretend not to understand what she meant.

"What about here, Kirk? What about now? The place is deserted. I've locked the door."

He groaned. God, he couldn't believe it. She was offering him his ultimate fantasy. How many nights had he lain awake thinking of something just like this? Now he swallowed, his gaze automatically settling on the hint of cleavage between the parted layers of silky blouse.

"If I kiss you, this time I won't be able to stop there."

"But that's okay," Janice said, leaning in toward him. "That's what I've been trying to tell you."

"The thing is, Claire, I've fallen in love with someone else."

Kirk always worked long hours, and lately they'd been even longer than usual. Had there been other signs she'd missed? They'd been making love less frequently. And saying I love you even less.

Regardless of whether Kirk had slept with Janice, he'd broken his wedding vow to Claire. He was in love with the other woman, and how could Claire compete? She was ten years older, overweight— and pregnant on top of everything!

Review: Never Second Best

Never Second Best

Never Second Best by Kenna Shaw Reed

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

They were perfect together, but he loved someone else.
She loved him too much and he was the model for her future relationships, but she could never forget him and resigned herself to being a friend.
He stayed with her only until the other woman decided to choose him. Then he moved his life with this woman and put her on the shelf of friendship.
He married another woman and built a family with her.
He was blinded by love for his wife and thought she was perfect, and he was doing his best to have a perfect life and giving her everything she wanted. He did everything for her to be happy. But he was her second choice.
But his wife left him for someone else and left him with the children.
Now he needs her again.
Will she be his second choice again?
I found the story average, nothing much.

“Once a cheater, always a cheater,” his mate, Joe, recently said over beers. “She cheated on her girlfriend with you, now she’s gone back to her.”

-------------------------
He still loved her too much to hate her, and at any time before today, if she had turned around and come back home … Despite what his friends and family would say, he would have welcomed her back with no questions.

--------------------------
Gorgeous, sweet Lucy. Their friendship became more, only to stall when he knew he was not ready to get over his teenage love.

--------------------------
An honorable woman who respected his marriage and didn’t want to intrude when it fell apart.
Lucy sent him a single text after Grace left, “I’m sorry.”

--------------------------
“I need to know how to make sure they know I love them and would never leave them, that they are safe with me and I need to know how to convince community services that Matt should stay with us.”

---------------------------
The moment she saw Seth’s reaction when Grace arrived answered why it never worked out between them. Lucy never stood a chance while ever he still felt that way about another woman.

---------------------------
“Part of you wants to replace the ex-Mrs Greenwood and help Seth by being the new woman in his life. I mean it, Lucy. You have the most beautiful heart of anyone I know and deserve more than to be someone’s consolation prize.”

----------------------------
He was a good man, the best husband and father he could possibly be, how could she do this, he cried.
Finally in the small hours of the morning, he awoke with the ring crushed within his fist. Too soon to put it away, but no longer fit for his left hand. The ring was a little tight on his right hand but would now be the start of him moving on.

-----------------------------
Lucy fell in love with Seth madly and deeply and from that first weekend away, they were inseparable.
For almost two months her first love was also her soulmate. They shared the same morals and values. Wanted the same things out of life and put others before themselves.
She saw all the years ahead of them and believed in all the moments that would make up their lives together.

-------------------------------
Excuses about being too busy at work to see her morphed into the “it’s not you, it’s me.”
Only when she met Grace and saw the way he looked at the other woman, did Lucy realize it wasn’t even Seth that stood between them. He wasn’t free to fall in love with her.
She had fallen in love with a man already emotionally and deeply committed to someone else.

---------------------------------
“I accepted a long time ago how you felt about her and about me. You could say, you put me in my place and I would never overstep. Especially not with the kids.”

---------------------------------
“You loved her so much, I don’t know how she could do this to you.”

---------------------------------
“She never loved me as much as I adored her, worshipped the ground she walked on.”

----------------------------------
“No, it’s true. You and I never stood a chance because in the back of my mind I was waiting for her to come back. When she did, I was so grateful she finally chose me, that I didn’t want to see all the signs. It took a while but I had to accept that she settled for me and once she got me out of her system, it was time to move on.”

-------------------------------------
“I’m not worried about you, she deserves better than to be your rebound.”

----------------------------
“Lucy, what will it take for you to trust me and give us another go?”
“This,” she massaged the wedding ring still on his right hand, “Isn’t making me feel like you’ve moved on.”

--------------------------
He didn’t need to see the ring, but wasn’t ready to throw it away, yet.

Review: Cash's Fight

Cash's FightCash's Fight by Jamie Begley

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

==>Re-rea July 13 2017
==>Re-read in March 2016 26 (I added 1 star with scenes of hunting and fishing - LOL)
==>Read in July 2014 02

Their relationship with the whores of the Club disgusts me.
The Club members can support these women and affirm that they are not whores, but for me that's what they are.
And the heroine have to have sex with other members also does not work for me.
The plot is getting beaten and always the same.
Then everyone lives happily as a big family where everybody fucks everyone or watching others have sex.

--------------------
SEX W/OW - Cheating

BEFORE HEROINE
1) Striding to the couch, he leaned over, picking Bliss up and tossing her over his shoulder.
“Hey!” Rider complained. “I wasn’t done with her yet.”
Cash turned back. “Did I say you couldn’t join us?”
2) No, let’s give them something to wake up for,” Cash answered, reaching for Raci.

AFTER HEROINE
3) Cash was getting out of his truck, holding the door open for a woman to slide out. Rachel’s eyes widened when she saw Cheryl taking her time getting out, bracing her hands on Cash’s chest. Her hair was a tumbled mess and her top was messed up.
It didn’t take a second for Rachel to figure out what had happened in his truck. Rachel felt as if a knife had been stuck in her belly.
4) He was halfway up the stairs when Raci yelled up at him.
“Want some company?”
Inside his bedroom, Raci quickly removed her skimpy outfit.
“What do you want tonight, Cash?”
“Every fucking thing you’ve got.”
5) The woman gave another moan. It was only when her voice impatiently said Cash’s name that Rachel recognized her as Bliss.
“Cash, quit teasing me!”
Cash’s hand was buried in the opened shorts as Bliss’s legs circled his waist.
Rachel stood frozen in place as Cash lowered his head, sucking on a bared breast while she saw Bliss’s hands go for his jeans.
“You need something bigger than my finger for that pussy?”
“God, yes!”

UPDATE: JULY 2017
------------------
“You might not act like a girl, but you have all the responses.”

“Do you want me to stop? This is going to hurt for a few minutes, but then it’s going to feel a hell of a lot better than my fingers.”
“Rachel, I did you a favor and everything else kinda got out of hand.”
"He hadn’t even glanced back as he left."
"Rachel lay back against the bed, ashamed and angry at herself."

FUCK FEST!
"Cheryl give him the blowjob she had promised,"
Inside his bedroom, Raci quickly removed her skimpy outfit. “What do you want tonight, Cash?” “Every fucking thing you’ve got.”

“I’ve never made promises to any of my clients, and no one has ever been left unsatisfied.” “I can vouch for that,” Cash said crudely. Rachel’s face blanched. “Move.”

Cash grinned. “I fucked her under your own roof,” Cash bragged.

“Just like the rest of his bitches. Mom and Dad would be ashamed at what happened tonight. You’ve shamed our whole family. You could have done anyone in town, but you had to do him, knowing how bad we hate him and his family!”

“Maybe she should go stay with The Last Riders since they’ve had her now.”

Burying her face in her hands, she let her humiliation free.

Cash’s low laugh had Rachel’s feet moving again, wishing she had never stopped. The image of them together would be burned forever in her mind. Bliss’s pleas and Cash’s confidence that he could satisfy the woman took away any doubts of whether they shared a sexual relationship.

"He had heard her voice as he had come inside of Bliss,"

"Her witnessing him with Cheryl and Bliss had made her feel as if he had thought of her as one more conquest."

“I’ve seen plenty of women on the back of your bike, Cash; it’s not exactly a privilege when a hundred other women have shared the experience.” Rachel wasn’t going to let him lead her to believe she was special."

“You’re an original member?” “Yes.” “Have you given Cheryl your vote?” “Yes.”

“You fucked me with no condom!”
“I haven’t fucked another woman since you saw me with Bliss.”

SEX W OM:
"She gazed up trustingly at Cash, feeling Train’s finger splay open the fleshy lips of her pussy. “Let’s see how well I did.”"
"Rachel’s hand fluttered against Cash’s hips as he slid his cock to the back of her throat as Train’s thick cock butted against her clit.""
“Can I have her mouth?” Train groaned. “You want his dick?” “Yes.” Rachel started shuddering."
"Pinned between the two men, she hadn’t noticed Rider and Bliss had come in until she heard the noise from the other side of the room. Bliss was riding Rider while they had watched Train and Cash play with her."
"Seeing the envy in the other woman’s eyes, Rachel knew Bliss wanted to trade places with her."

"If he hadn’t asked Shade’s father to check on Beth and Lily during his travels, then none of The Last Riders would have ended up making Treepoint their home.Four of his brothers and now him had found their women."

“I’ve watched how The Last Riders took care of Lily and Beth. Knox became Sheriff to make Diamond happy. Viper took care of that asshole who hurt Winter. You take care of your women. Rachel will not only be protected by you, but your club. I don’t have to worry about her anymore since she’ll always have someone at her back if something happens to me and my brothers.”

"She was average height, neither pretty nor coyote ugly, with brown hair and eyes and a body that was so thin that her friends would bluntly ask if she was anorexic.  Even when she loaded herself with carbs, she barely weighed a hundred pounds."
"Staring at the gorgeous club member, she realized why he had no trouble keeping his distance from her."
"He fuck as good as he look?”  She pointed to Loker.  Natasha laughed. “Better.”
"Winter winced, realizing that Loker had obviously been with more than one of the women who belonged to their club."

==>HEROINE WAS USED WITHOUT CONSIDERATION FOR HER FEELINGS:
"she had been nothing more than pawn used to get closer to Vincent."
"you practically fucked everyone you came in contact with in two states but me.”

==>WALKING VAGINA:
"The nickname of Bliss had been earned when several members had remarked her pussy was that good."

==>CHEATER:
"He had fucked around on Winter for two years, guilt free, until she had found out the truth, then the guilt had kicked in with a vengeance."

==>CLUB WHORES:
"Natasha if you wanted a quick fun time,"
"Dawn if you needed a good workout,"
"Ember if you wanted to go slow and play the seductive games she liked to play,"
"Stori if you didn’t mind the chatter."
"Jewell and Evie were the ones up for anything."

==>KISS HEROINE AND THEN GOING TO SCREW THE WHORES
"The fire that had started when his tongue had entered Winter’s mouth was about to be put out.  As he came, Jewell moaned"
"Viper came out of the bathroom leaving Evie to finish her shower alone and saw that Cash was sitting on his bed talking on his cell phone with Bliss laying naked by his side."
“Thanks Viper.”  “Thank you, Bliss.” Giving a cheeky grin, the woman left."

==>WHILE HE HAD SEX WITH CLUB WHORES OUR HEROINE WAS ON THE VERGE OF DEATH:
“Bad. He almost beat her to death, and then she lay in the parking lot exposed to the elements all fucking night. The Sheriff doesn’t think she is going to make it. Sorry man, but I have to go.  They are waiting for me.”

==>I HATE THIS BITCH!
"Bliss reached out and pulled her top back leaving the curve of her breast bare, giving a clear view of the tattoo.  It was very pretty. Winter swallowed the nausea rising in her stomach as she saw the date.  It was the day she had been attacked, surrounded by a daisy chain of four flowers. "

Review: Razer's Ride

Razer's RideRazer's Ride by Jamie Begley

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

UPDATE: Re-read 4-5 july 2017
------------------
Motorcycle Club or sex club?
And loyalty with the friends of the club where is it? The heroine doesn't deserve at least that?
I like the theme of the book, but had difficulty accepting some attitudes of the hero ... He is an asshole!
But overall the book is good!
----------------
==>First Date: She is shy and repressed... 🙄
"Beth slowly moved her hands on his cock,"
"sliding the panties out of the way so his long finger could slide deep within her. His teeth bit her nipple,"
“Swallow it all.”

==>She is educated and supposedly intelligent... 🙈
"have a nursing degree also. I worked and got my masters in business with a minor in accounting."

==>He made out with Beth and then fuck the bitches in the Club... 🤮
"Razer was in bed with Evie lying on top, his large cock buried in her pussy while Train fucked her from behind, pinning Evie between their thrusting bodies. Even Knox was in there, sitting on the chair by the rocking bed with his fist pumping his hard dick."
"Even last week, after he had left her with the taste of him, he had come back here to fuck Sam."

==> He's no Prince charming:
"but woman, you’re just too much work for a piece of pussy.”
"Beth, I have to be honest, my dick doesn’t have a woman’s name on it and it won’t ever. I like sex and enjoy a variety of partners. I practice safe sex and the others in the house do, too; it’s a hard rule."

==> She feeling pretty special, but she doesn't know that his road name says it all.
"Beth froze in place as he continued to shave her, moving her leg higher until he could even slide the Razer around the sides of her plump lips."
“Don’t tell me Razer hasn’t showed off his special skill with that razor of his. He keeps all the girls nice and neat. Buys special lotions for just that purpose; he’s an expert at it, he never nicks the flesh. He always does it before he goes down on you.”

==> None of them cares about her feelings. In my book that's not friendship.
"She was going to find out why no one had come by the hospital to check on her, why no one had even called."
"Walking into the house she saw Razer immediately, Bliss was sitting on his lap with a black pair of leather shorts and a black vest completely open baring her breasts. Razer was sitting and playing with her nipple."
“Hi, Razer, Evie. I thought I would stop by and see if everyone was all right. I’d hoped you would come by the hospital to see me.” Beth’s voice was hesitant as she deliberately kept her eyes on Razer’s face while his hands stroked Bliss’s breasts."
“Listen, bitch, I don’t know how much more blunt I have to be, but here goes. We had fun, but I don’t want or need a permanent roommate. I like variety in my pussy, and I can see by the way you look at me that you’re getting too attached."
“Now, if you’ll excuse us, I’m going to my room to see if her pussy is as tight as yours was when I popped your cherry.”

==>Liar liar pants on fire...
"You are incapable of giving me the relationship I need to be happy, which involves trust, fidelity and love. Even if you swore to do all three, I would never, ever believe in you again.”

==> In my book this is friendship. They are awesome! 😍
“So instead, you betrayed Beth. She’s not club, so she didn’t matter,” Killyama threw the explanation back in Evie’s face."
"Those women stood up for you when we didn’t."

==> Dumb shit: 🤢
"touched Bliss that day, but I did it to put on a show for Memphis and to drive you away. She came, but I wasn’t even hard."

Review: Runaway Wife

Runaway Wife

Runaway Wife by Charlotte Lamb

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I did not like the hero.
He dropped the heroine at their home in the country and continued his life in the city. And the secretary accompanied him in all social functions in the city and in his travels.
He dispatches their son to boarding school against the will of the heroine.
If he lived practically alone in London in my opinion he did not even care about his family. It was another sign of social status.
In my opinion he must have cheated on her at some point. He is too arrogant and too aggressive and in no time I felt that he really loved her. She is more of a possession.
Our heroine is a doormat and does nothing against the other woman. She should have marked her position from the start and not been passive.
She should have imposed her position as a partner in the company and put the secretary in her place or demanded that the bitch be fired.
Keeping the secretary was more important than keeping his marriage.
She should have kicked the hero's ass and ripped off the other woman's hair.

It was the last straw when Oliver could not make it home for their 10th wedding anniversary.

Miss Sylvester wasn’t there. She was in Wales with Mr Ransom, Francesca was informed.

Francesca wished she had someone to talk over problems with, someone she could trust the way Oliver trusted Miss Sylvester.

He hadn’t taken her seriously for years; she had merged with the wallpaper of his life, along with Lambourne, Jon, even his father. The things that really mattered to Oliver were up here, in London. This was where Oliver lived. Their home in Sussex was a place he visited, and she and Jon people he visited; they were peripheral to Oliver’s real world, the business world in which Miss Sylvester and Matt belonged and where Oliver most truly existed, was most himself, a self Francesca did not know.

he shook her backwards and forwards so violently that her hair came tumbling down, the long blonde strands flying around her face and tangling in his fingers.

She hadn’t been imagining things; there was something going on between Oliver and Janice Sylvester. Humiliation stung in her throat. It was bad enough that he had cheated on her, but for everyone to know about it made it seem worse.

You’ve been flying about all over the world with Janice Sylvester for years and getting away with.

Matt looked at him then. ‘You’re the one who keeps forgetting . . .that’s why she left you!’

Oliver might not realise it, but by taking Janice instead of her to this party he was practically making a public announcement to the staff, and Janice feverishly wanted him to commit himself.

Janice was not having coffee. She was sitting on Oliver’s lap, her arms around his neck, kissing him passionately.

She had begun to wonder months ago, puzzled by Oliver’s lack of interest in her, by his long absences and his cold remoteness, picking up the malice and dislike in Janice’s voice whenever they spoke on the telephone. It had all pointed to one answer--that Oliver was having an affair with his secretary--and everyone had been dropping hints since she started work here. Matt had betrayed his suspicions by his unhappy...

Review:

I bought this book on .Dec 7, 2014. and it was on my reading list.

I do not remember who recommended the reading, but I bought it and added it to my cheater's shelf.

This month I'm trying to get my TBR up-to-date and I've researched my Kindle and discovered this book.

I had read reviews at the time, but fortunately I did not remember anything.

This book evokes so many feelings and their love is so beautiful at the beginning of the reading that we really get touched.

Our supposed hero has had a miserable childhood and fears poverty. He witnessed the death of his mother and sister in extreme poverty. He is a dedicated husband and father, but feels that life is not fair to him and deserves more material things. He envies the wealth and power of the city's elite.

He has a wonderful wife and their lives are simple but full of love and happiness. They are happy and envied by people for their qualities as a couple and as family.

Their crop of wheat suffers a great loss and he seeks employment in one of the factories of the city.

The daughter of the factory owner has an obsession with him and wants him for herself. One of the employees at the same factory has an obsession with our heroine and he wants her for himself.

The two unite to separate the couple and achieve their goals.

But if it had not been for the hero's greed and the choices he made they would not have achieved their goal.

He began to compare the other woman's wealth and the ease with which she buys everything and is served by servants at any simple request. He even makes love to his wife by thinking of the other woman because she helped him in Christmas shopping and he was charmed by her wealth.

Gradually he moves away from the family and becomes more and more involved with the other woman and being blinded by greed.

Meanwhile the other man who covets our heroine begins to infiltrate their family and make a presence.

I was shocked by the coldness that he leaves the family and is deluded with clothes and cars that the other woman buys for him. He cuts off all kinds of contact with the family, not accepting calls from the wife and ignoring the children. Even at his sons' birthday party he does not appear.

Our heroine is destroyed and the children do not understand what happened.
I confess that I was very sad to accompany a story of love and family so perfect that broken in this way.

He sends divorce papers for her to sign without even coming face to face with her. He sends through the man who from the beginning coveted his wife. This man seeing the suffering and destruction of our heroine begins to regret and feel guilty about his part in the separation of the couple.

The supposed hero gets stuck in his ivory tower with the other woman who is a bitch, expensive clothes, cars and money that in the end are worthless.

The grass is greener in the neighbor's yard.
But not everything that glitters is gold.

Never forgetting that the story takes place during the Second World War and that women behaved differently from the present.

My grandmother had to wait until my mother got married to be able to separate from my grandfather who was a great cheater. Because at the time divorced or separated women were not well accepted by society.

I was outraged at her intention to accept the cheater back because she still loved him, but her children had a different opinion. They were disgusted by the abandonment of their father and began to hate him. There is a very strong scene where the children show him what he did to their family.

Our supposed hero turned out in the end besides being greedy, being a great coward who could not bear to face the consequences of his actions.

Our heroine continued to be the wonderful person she was and found happiness.

I finished the book exhausted and with a sadness in my heart. The author gave us strong feelings and a satisfying ending. I would prefer that the supposed hero live with the other woman until the end of his life in great wealth but miserable inside. But I'm a vengeful bitch.

I recommend reading.

Review:

This book was on my reading list for a long time and I was always putting off.
I confess that the story of the athlete who leaves his pregnant girlfriend and move on as if nothing had happened already was making me sick.
But I decided to stop avoiding the reading and it took me almost a week to complete.
I really liked heroine and how she managed to raise her son and finish her studies without the help of the hero who asked her to get an abortion when she refused he signed giving up rights as a father.
He proved to be selfish and spoiled just thinking about him and the wonderful future that awaited him. And he had a girlfriend that in the eyes of his family was perfect while involved with our heroine. He reneged on their relationship and seemed ashamed of it.
Over the years our heroine becomes a recognized professional and an exemplary mother, while his career is falling and his new fiancée becomes a nightmare. He is engaged to a rich and spoiled socialite who is a horrible person. I think they both deserve each other.
Our heroine comes into contact with the hero because she needs a bone marrow donor for their son who has cancer.
At first he is furious with her and just think of the impact that the discovery of an illegitimate child would cause in his image. Turns out he has a pristine image and the abandonment of a child would harm his future contracts.
At this point in the reading I was willing to abandon the reading, but I kept going and I was curious about how the author would make us like the hero and how he would make the heroine to forgive him.
The author really knew how to make the reader go discovering new layers of personality of each character that made them more human and likely to be forgiven by the actions of the past.
Adding in the story:
-a sick child,
-the need of heroine to help others and suffering the consequences for that,
-a partner in the firm she works for wanting to take advantage of the fact of her being a woman in the workplace,
-Mommy and Daddy issues,
-feel inadequate and unworthy of love, afraid to love and to be abandoned again,
-guilt by taking certain decisions that impacted on their future...
Adding to all this still a paranormal dose doing the reader be moved and spend a box of tissues...
At the end of it all it was a good read.
Love, family, forgiveness, hope for a better future and the certainty that we are not in this life by chance. We all have a purpose and need each other to complete our journey.
